Year of Version 2006 Dates Amended up to: February 1, 2006 Adopted: March 21, 2001 Type of Text Main IP Laws Subject Matter Copyright and Related Rights (Neighboring Rights) Notes The Copyright Law of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is divided into 6 chapters: Chapter 1 on Fundamental Principles, Chapter 2 on Object of Copyright, Chapter 3 on Copyright Holders, Chapter 4 on Use of Copyrighted Works, Chapter 5 on Related Rights’ Holders, and Chapter 6 on Guidance and Control of Copyright Protection.

Article 5, inter alia, states that the copyright of a corporate body or an individual whose country is a party to a convention to which the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (hereafter the “DPRK”) has acceded shall be protected by the convention.
Article 7 states that the DPRK shall promote exchange and cooperation with foreign countries and international organizations in the field of copyright.
Articles 23 and 24 provide for the term of protection which varies depending on the type of copyright work.
