The Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE Constitution), the supreme law of the country, was adopted in Addis Ababa by the Constitutional Assembly on December 8, 1994, and came into force on August 21, 1995.
The Constitution contains provisions relating to intellectual property. Article 40(2) guarantees the protection for intangible products that are produced by labor and creativity. Articles 51(19) and 55(2)(g) define the responsibilities of the Government for ensuring the protection of patent inventions and copyrights.
