Year of Version 2004 Dates Entry into force: March 14, 2004 Issued: August 30, 2003 Type of Text Main IP Laws   Subject Matter Copyright and Related Rights (Neighboring Rights) Subject Matter (secondary) Enforcement of IP and Related Laws, IP Regulatory Body, Traditional Cultural Expressions Notes The Copyright Law (“the Law”) contains 7 chapters and 28 articles, covering matters relating to general definitions referred to in the Law (Article 1), protected works including original works and derivative works (Chapter One, Articles 2-4), ownership of copyright works including single or collective works and works of folklore (Chapter Two, Articles 5-7), rights protected including moral rights and economic rights, (Chapter Three, Articles 8-14), lawful uses of copyright works (Chapter Four, Articles 15-17); scope and duration of copyright protection (Chapter Five, Articles 18-20), copyright infringement and penalties (Chapter Six, Articles 21-15), and general provisions on the implementing regulations and validity of the Law, and the repealed Copyright Law 1989 (Chapter Seven, Articles 26-28). Article 28 of the Law states that it shall be effective after six months from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. The Law was published in the Official Gazette (Umm al-Qura) No. 3959 of 22/7/1424 (September 19, 2003), and entered into force six months from this date.
