Article 3 of Federal Law No. 230-FZ of July 26, 2019 provides for in paragraph 1 that it shall enter into force on July 27, 2020, one year after the day of its official publication (July 26, 2019); except for points 8) and 9) under subparagraph 'e' of paragraph 10) of Article 1 of the said Federal Law, which shall enter into force on July 28, 2025, five years after the day of its entry into force (July 27, 2019).
The notification by the Russian Federation to the WTO under article 63.2 of TRIPS states:
'The Law amending Russian Federation Civil Code adds Geographical Indications to the list of protected results of intellectual activity and means of individualization.
Legislative amendments set out differences between Geographical Indications (GI) and Appellations of Origin, establish rules for GI use and rights of GI holders, as well as provide procedure for GI registration and revocation of exclusive rights.'
