Year of Version 2016 Dates Entry into force: March 19, 2014 Adopted: March 17, 2014 Type of Text IP-related Laws Subject Matter Trademarks, Geographical Indications, IP Regulatory Body, Other Notes This version of Law No. 2014-344 of March 17, 2014, on Consumer Protection ('Hamon Law') incorporates the references of all amendments up to Law No. 2016-1547 of November 18, 2016, on the Modernization of Justice in the 21st Century, which entered into force on November 20, 2016.
Article 103 of the said Law 2016-1547 amends paragraph II of Article 43 under Section 1, Chapter III of this consolidated version, which does not relate to intellectual property matters.

Chapter IV (Articles 73 to 75) of Law No. 2014-344 of March 17, 2014 introduces amendments to the Intellectual Property Code ('IP Code') and the Consumer Code, relating to the geographical indications and protection of the names of regional and local authorities.
- Articles 73 and 75 amend the following provisions of the Second Part of the Legislative Part of the Intellectual Property Code:
(1) Article 73 amends Articles L. 411-1, L.411-4 under Book IV and Article L.712-4 under Book VII; adds paragraph d to Article L.711-4, Article L.712-2-1, paragraph b to Article L.713-6, and Sections 1 and 2 under Chapter I of Title II of Book VII;
(2) Article 75 adds Title III to Book VII of the IP Code.
- Article 74 amends Article L. 115-16 and adds Chapter VI to Title I of Book I of the Consumer Code.
Chapter IV of Law No. 2014-344 creates a new industrial property right: the 'Geographical Indications protecting Industrial Products and Crafts' (see Section 2 under Chapter I of Title II, Book VII of the IP Code added by Article 73, paragraph 8 of the said Law). This Chapter enlarges the scope of protected GIs to non-agricultural products and non-foodstuffs.
